Angela "peedee" Palmer
meet My older sister
Read on to get my perspective on the first born in our family
My sister Angela was born on September 24th 1977. The first born of the family, she carved the path for the rest of us. Growing up, Ang and I had a special bond. For 1 we were the only pair of girls in the family. A sister’s bond is strong from the get go I suppose. Another big factor was that we shared space. Yes, we were bunked together for all time and eternity it seemed. But the older I get, the more I realize, they were some of the best times of my life. Singing Roxette via a crayola marker serving as a microphone. How can you beat that for eighties entertainment?
We shared a deep passion for athletics for as long as I can remember. Whether it was our makeshift baseball games in the lot next to our house, or our countless battles on the basketball court, we were always involved in something. When I mentioned earlier that she paved the way for all of us, I meant it. For me, she carved the path to success in basketball. She was a Lady Jag before I was, and oh how I wanted to be one. She taught me the honor of being such comes with hard work and above all, practice, practice, practice. She gave our last name a good name, especially when it comes to athletics. I will never forget my freshman year I decided to go out for track in the fall to get ready for the basketball season. I knew at heart that I was much slower than my sister when it came to running. I mean she’s a freaking state champion. So on this particular day, I think it was my 3rd or 4th day attending practice, we were doing sprinting drills. The 40 yard dash to be exact. I lined up for my turn to be timed. Someone said go, I started running. It seemed like an eternity, but I felt pretty good about my finish. I went up to coach Fletcher for my results, and to this day his words echo in my mind. He said, “not bad. To give you an idea, your sister is about 3 to 4 times faster than you”. I just had to laugh. My sister the champion. Throughout those years I remember her parallel to a thoughobred horse mounted by a champion jockey, just running. Doing what they do best. I could never match up to her in the realm of athletics. Nor would I want to I suppose. Leave a perfect thing alone.
Angela is a very passionate person that is firm in her beliefs. She experiences life to its fullest. She will try something new given the opportunity. She has been all around the world testing the waters of the unknown. She is the polar opposite of boring. She is a highly educated and well-read individual. A conversationalist by nature, I tend to be a tad lackluster for her at times.
The past few years we have grown awfully close. I love having her around. She has visited me a couple of times in the last six months. I look forward to anytime we have together. I simply enjoy her company. She makes me laugh. I feel that she believes in me. And who wouldn’t want to be sisters with someone if they absolutely believe in who you are?
